I'm building a new way to trust people online. With The150, it's an invite-only community board of 150 people around me, literally. It's only people close to Bloor West Village, and it stops at 150 people. Everyone has skills and knowledge they want to share, events they want to plan and advice they want to ask for. But there's a growing risk.
It's easier than ever to be taken advantage of by people you will never meet.
So this is my theory of building a community in 2026: make it with people close by, where sharing and giving information isn't a risk of it being used to make money off you.
Post morning and evening walks, barbecues, book clubs, and even seminars on topics you want to help your community improve on.
If you have a project in mind, ask for people with specific talents, or if they know anyone that do.
If you're seeking advice, meet in-person to discuss it with someone who won't use it to sell you something.
150 is Dunbar's number. It's an approximation of how many meaningful connections a person makes in their local community. If it's easier than ever to trick someone with an AI digital account, people will be at risk of having meaningless connections. We can help each other prepare for that, and make something we can trust.
I'll give you the code on physical paper. You then make an account using that code. No email required, so it's not meant to be a regular social platform. You check it occasionally when you want to see what's happening.
Yes. This isn't a city-wide app. It's for people close enough to meet up, and make in-person connections.
I don't hand out any more access codes, unless someone says they don't want to be in it anymore. I'll try to add a person to compensate. If you have friends or family who want to join but don't live nearby, I'd instead want to work with them to set up their own version.
No. There's no advertising model here. Nothing you post is used to target or sell to you. If someone tries to sell you a course, info or objects through this let me know. I want to first talk with them about why I don't want to support that, but if needed it'll be a removal.
If they live very close by and we aren't at capacity, yes. Message me and I'll make an access code. Otherwise I'd want to encourage them to make their own version of this with their community.
